Garden City hold Altitude to 2-2 draw

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Altitude were hoping to down Garden City to maintain their hopes of staying abreast of FFB Top League leaders Verdes but on Saturday night they came across a very combative Belmopan side which held them to a 2-2 draw.

Altitude now have ten points, lagging behind Verdes (15) and San Pedro (10). While they are still hopeful of winning the Closing Championship, they are now out of the Concacaf League race.

Garden City moved up to six points from six games.

Shawn Young powered in the first goal in the 34th minute. With his back to the goal, Young got the ball from the sideline, turned around facing the goal, beat two defenders. When a third approached him, Young fired. Goalkeeper Oscar Palomino managed to touch the ball but to no avail

Garden City up 1-0.

Altitude tied the ball game in 45’+2 on a strike by Jonard Castillo who reached out from behind a defender to drive in a pass from Colombian Andrés Orozco.

Altitude then went ahead 2-1 on a penalty kick converted by Orozco in the 72nd minute after being pushed down from behind in the box by Byron Usher.

But Garden City were not to be denied. In the 85th, Shawn Caliz beat two opponents, set up Jerome Belisle on the right side of the 18-yard box. Belisle crossed to the left to Calvin Young who tapped the ball into the net for the final 2-2 score.
