BWS pump $12.2 million into water expansion project, several community rehabilitation projects

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belize Water Services (BWS) is pumping $12.2 million into a water expansion project and a number of community rehabilitation projects in Southern Belize, according to Prime Minister John Briceño.

“Today, I rolled into southern Belize along with our Minister for Public Utilities Michel Chebat and officials from Belize Water Services as the company released a high-pressure flow into the communities of a water system expansion project and several community rehabilitation projects,” posted Prime Minister Briceño on social media on Friday.

According to the Prime Minister, the works include the renovation of the Placencia Community Center and Basketball Court and the donation of a garbage truck to the Seine Bight Village Council.

BWS is also working on three projects in the Placencia Peninsula, all of which should be completed within a year.

The projects are the construction of a 500,000 US gallon water reservoir and site development, the installation of a 10-inch transmission line from Independence to Seine Bight, and the upgrading of water mains from Placencia to Maya Beach.

“The projects and donations are funded by BWS with a total cost of $12.2 million,” the Prime Minister stated.
