By Aaron Humes: 26-year-old Chavez Tyrone Garbutt of Mahogany Heights, Belize District, appeared before the Belize City Magistrate’s Court to answer two criminal offenses of the threat of death and common assault.
Garbutt pleaded not guilty to threatening to kill his ex-common-law-wife on May 25 as well as the assault.
In court, Garbutt told Magistrate Kara Walters that the virtual complainant is his now pregnant 5 months old ex-common-law wife but that they have not been together for 3 years. They share a child who is in pre-school but do not live together.
Magistrate Walters offered Garbutt bail in the sum of $1,500 plus one surety of the same amount which he was able to meet by end of the day.
Garbutt is not to interfere with the virtual complainant or any of her family members and he is to stay 100 yards from her. Magistrate Walters also ordered him to sign in at the Mahogany Heights police substation every Friday effective next week Friday, June 3. He returns to court on July 18.
