Government of Belize to ban charter flights from Haiti

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Cabinet met on June 14, 2022, and among the issues discussed were the charter flights from Haiti to Belize.

The Government of Belize issued a statement saying that permission to land will not be granted for charter flights from Haiti to Belize since they are not genuine tourist flights.

In addition, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Immigration is considering revoking visa-free travel to Belize for Haitians.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Eamon Courtenay says that the decision follows reports of “corrupt and abusive mafia” using the flights out of Haiti to smuggle Haitians, the Jamaica Observer reports.

In addition, many of those on the flights are arriving in Belize with 1-way tickets without any accommodation arrangements.
