Record number of migrants cross the Rio Grande from Mexico to Texas

Posted: Tuesday, July 19, 2022. 4:51 pm CST.

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: A record number of migrants are seeking to cross the Rio Grande from Mexico into Texas, Reuters report.

Data indicates that a record number of Mexican and Central American migrants continue to trek north hoping to reach the USA.

Some swim through the waters of the Rio Grande into Texas and although authorities continue to warn of the dangers and risks posed by this journey, many believe this is their only hope.

Data from the U.S. border patrol indicate that there were 222,000 apprehensions along the United States Southern Border in June 2022.

Authorities say the high levels of migrant detentions are driven in part by record arrivals from countries including Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador.

During a discussion with Mexican President, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, U.S. President, Joe Biden said that dealing with immigration was a shared hemispheric challenge for both the United States and Mexico.

President Biden asserted that his administration is creating legal pathways for migrants.
