19-year-old motorcyclist dies in early Friday morning traffic accident

By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 19-year-old student who was riding a motorcycle is the victim of an accident that occurred in the wee hours of Friday morning on the Philip Goldson Highway. The student has been identified as Daniel Thompson, a resident of Ladyville.

According to police, Thompson was riding a black Meilun motorcycle on the Philip Goldson Highway early this morning heading toward the Burrell Boom Road junction when he was run into by a red Dodge Challenger car upon passing the curve after Tubal Trade Institute, between miles 12 and 13. Thompson sustained severe injuries and was pronounced dead at Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, Belize City.

Police say the motorcycle did not have tail lights and the area was very dark, so it is possible the vehicle driver failed to see the motorcycle in front of him before they collided.

The driver of the red Dodge car is being held pending further investigation. So far Police have served a notice of intended prosecution to the driver  but have not yet charged him for the death of Daniel Thompson.
