Special needs man and father murdered in own yard; investigations continue

Posted: Tuesday, November 29, 2022. 9:17 am CST.

By Aaron Humes: Police have confirmed that two persons are being held in connection with the murder of Jerome Bennett, 25, of Elston Kerr Street, Belize City, in his yard on Friday.

Senior Superintendent of Police Hilberto Romero told reporters on Monday that “We have not clearly established a motive. We are following several leads. Information is that he may have had an argument over some monies with the male persons who may have been involved.”

Bennett is described as a former special needs student with an intellectual disability. But he had a young child, a job, and loved ones.

The area is known to be a hotspot for gang and criminal activity and Superintendent Romero said those potential tie-ins are also being looked at.
