By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Cristiano Ronaldo shocked the world when Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr announced that they had signed the Portuguese star for two seasons. When he was presented to 30,000 Saudi fans on Tuesday, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner said, ‘my work in Europe is done’ and added that he will now take the challenge of breaking records in Asian football with Al Nassr.

“I played at the best clubs in the world… and I won everything. I’m happy, proud to join Al Nassr FC” Cristiano Ronaldo said.

“People don’t know about the level here. This contract is unique because I am a unique player. It’s normal for me”.

But while Cristiano Ronaldo might be done with Europe, Europe is not done with him yet.

Fans were expecting him to make his debut against Al-Te’ee on Thursday but, according to British newspaper The Mirror, he will have to sit out a two-game ban by the English Football Association after slamming a boy’s phone out of his hand and damaging it in April 2022 after a Manchester United 1-0 loss to Everton.

It’s not going to be until he’s served that ban that he will be able to make his debut for the Saudi Arabian club as suspensions by one association carry on to another as all are members of FIFA, the world governing body of the sport.

Though the incident happened in April, it was not until November 17 that the English FA suspended him for two games and fined him £50,000, the Daily Mail said. Cristiano apologized to the young supporter after the incident saying he had not reacted properly.

“It’s never easy to deal with emotions in difficult moments … nevertheless, we always have to be respectful, patient and set the example for all the youngsters who love the beautiful game,” Cristiano said in an Instagram post at the time.

“I would like to apologise for my outburst and, if possible, I would like to invite this supporter to watch a game at Old Trafford as a sign of fair-play and sportsmanship.”
