Another accused gang affiliate claims police tried to force him to plead guilty to the charge

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Another Belize City resident charged with gang affiliation has claimed that the Belize Police Department tried to force him to plead guilty to the charge.

Clint Geban appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, answering to a single count of being a member of a gang.

Geban, accused of being affiliated with the South Side Gang (SSG), pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Geban said that he was picked up by police pending a Preliminary Inquiry in connection with a murder case on March 2 and during his detention an officer tried to make him plead guilty to gang affiliation but he refused.

Due to the nature of the offense, bail was denied and Geban was remanded into custody at the Belize Central Prison until May 8, 2023.

Fitzroy Myles Jr., who was also charged and remanded to prison that day, told an identical story during his arraignment, saying he had been picked up pending a PI on March 3 and then an officer pressured him to plead guilty to gang affiliation.
