By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The San Pedro Pirates are now the sole leaders of the Premier League of Belize (PLB) with 21 points, three more than Port and Verdes, who will have to replay their match in its entirety.

The PLB ruled that Belmopan club Internacional, formerly Bandits, forfeited their match against San Pedro Pirates last Saturday and awarded the Pirates the three points. On Saturday, the PLB announced that Internacional would not be able to field a team against San Pedro and said that they would have to do an ‘immediate revision’.

The PLB announced their decision on a flyer posted on their Facebook page that said “Internacional forfeited the match, Pirates win by default earning 3 points and 3 goals” but didn’t give any reason though word has it that Belmopan club, despite Mexican sponsorship, is having financial difficulties.

San Pedro remain in contention for a Concacaf spot should they win the closing championship as they are third in the Cumulative Table with 44 points behind Verdes (47) and Altitude (45).
