By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Verdes sent shock waves through Port Layola beating them 2-0 at the Marion Jones Sporting Complex in Belize City.

That was Port’s second loss in three days at home against a Cayo side, their only two field losses so far this season.

The victory catapults Verdes to the top spot with 24 points, two more than the San Pedro Pirates, four more than Progresso, and six more than Port Layola.

For the City side, the loss is a great shock particularly after losing the first encounter against Verdes off the table due to a sanction for fielding an ineligible player, who they claim only played because the PLB had authorized him, despite their winning 2-1 at the Norman Broaster Stadium in San Ignacio.

Now, both teams prepare for the upcoming weekend road games on Holy Saturday. Verdes match against San Pedro Pirates at Ambergris Stadium while Port Layola will travel South to take on Altitude at the Michael Ashcroft Stadium in Independence.
