By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belize, represented by Dr. Leroy Almendarez chaired the Regional MSME Promotion Center (CENPROMYPE) Extraordinary Board Meeting as President Pro-tempore (PPT) of the Central American Integration Systema (SICA) on April 18-19.
According to a Belize Trade and Investment Development Service (Beltraide) press release, the meeting’s objective was to discuss progress of the CENPROMYPE agenda by member countries.
“This regional alliance should deepen the work undertaken by entities, focused on women entrepreneurship in Belize and Guatemala, under the support program funded by the Republic of China (Taiwan), which should contribute to the enhanced development of competitive MSMEs,” said the Beltraide press release which noted that before the board meeting, CENPROMYPE and the Universidad del Valle of Guatemala made a collaborative launch.

Beltraide said the CENPROMYPE agenda included presentations and discussions on:
The CENPROMYPE meeting was also updated ‘La Idea’ Incubator Project facilitated by support from the US Department of State. The incubator project seeks to promote trade between Central America and the United States.
Belize assumed the Pro-tempore Presidency for SICA in January 2023. Each of the eight SICA countries rotate the pro-tempore presidency for a period of six months.
