Paul Jex murder trial begins in High Court with eyewitness’s account of killing

By Aaron Humes: High Court Justice Nigel Pilgrim has begun hearing the trial of brothers Delson, 24, and Tione Paguada, 20, and 50-year-old Timothy Carcamo, charged with the murder of 32-year-old Paul Jex on Ambergris Caye on January 23, 2018.

The trio, represented by counsel Leeroy Banner, all pleaded not guilty.

Two statements were agreed on and put into evidence, while the Crown’s main witness began her testimony virtually.

The witness testified that while on her way to drop off two children at their homes she saw a brown-skinned man on a bicycle, wearing a green shirt, enter the San Pedrito area, followed by three other men from the lagoon-side area. She allegedly recognized two of the men as Tione and Delson Paguada but not the third.

The witness testified that Tione allegedly had a gun in his hand and he was first to fire shots at the man in the green shirt. The victim fell to the ground and was then shot again in the head by the taller third individual before the trio fled the scene running toward the lagoon. The witness said she then called 911 and reported the incident.

The trial continues.
