By Rubén Morales Iglesias: After dumping the Benny’s Belize Hurricanes 66-61 at the Civic last Sunday in ‘Hurricanes’ (Belize) City, the San Pedro Tiger Sharks are coming back mean as ever on Friday with the intent of dissipating ‘the wind’ that had promised to make ‘panades’ out of them but turned into a ‘breeze’.

The scenario is set … same court, same players, same fans … same score?

We’ll find out come 9:00 pm Friday.

Last Sunday, it was a low scoring game with both overstudying each other and San Pedro, whose home game it was on the enemy’s court because they couldn’t avail themselves of the home court at the Angel Nuñez Auditorium, prevailing and tying the five-game series 1-1.

Leading all the way in Game 2, the Tiger Sharks will again need to count on Kyle Steward who top scored with 19 points and 10 rebounds, and Jihad Wright and Keith Pollard who pumped in 13 points each.

The Hurricanes better get their game together because another night with just one player with double digits won’t cut it. Only Victor Evans surpassed ten points, scoring 13 just like Wright and Pollard. And that, because San Pedro were without Jamaal Clifton who was sidelined due to the infighting incident a couple weeks back in Game 1. Since then, Clifton has apologized publicly saying it hurts not to be on the court.

Jamel Harris, Glency Lopez, Alex Carcamo, captain Tyrie Orosco, Kris Frazier and Eyan Rene had better bring their A game otherwise they will go from trailblazing favourites to simple trailers.

But the Tiger Sharks captain Francis Arana, Jamal Kelly, John Kelly, and Matt Gordon must also improve on Sunday’s performance if they’re gonna do it again. After all, the ‘panades’ threat is still there.

Must remember no game is the same. And final series can be sweeps, which this is not going to be this time around, or roller coaster rides.

The question is, who is going to ride the crest on Friday?

The Tiger Sharks are coming full force, but the ‘breeze’ is picking up speed and momentum threatening to be a ‘Category 5 hurricane’ again by Friday. You had better check the weather forecast.

Tickets go on sale Thursday from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm and Friday from 10:00 am to gametime at the Belize Civic Center ticket booth. The Canes say you can call 610-5190 or 610-2601 to secure your tickets.
