Mango Creek woman charged with loitering and resisting arrest after girls’ night out in Belize City

By Aaron Humes: A Mango Creek, Stann Creek District woman, who came to Belize City to party with her sisters she had not seen for a while, is happy to be back home and out of the hands of the police after she was allegedly roughed up badly by a male police officer and criminally charged.

According to 25-year-old Errolyn August, she was just leaving the establishment when police arrived in the area and told her that she was loitering. That’s when, she told our court reporter, things got out of control. The male officer grabbed her by her neck in an effort to detain her and caused injury.

August said that while she did not agree with the actions of the police, and she knows she was not loitering, she simply cannot afford to return for another adjournment, hence why she pleaded guilty to all charges: loitering, resisting arrest and committing a mischievous act.

She was fined a total of $150 on the first two charges and cost of court while the third charge was dismissed by the Magistrate. August has until August 31, 2023 to pay her two fines.

In the case of the third charge, August said that after she was taken into custody she informed that she is from Mango Creek and then alleges she was asked for a Belize City address where she could be reached. After giving the address of a friend she was told that she allegedly had committed a mischievous act because she had already told him she lived in Mango Creek.
