By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Today, the World Health Organization (WHO) flagged a batch of contaminated common cold syrup produced by an Indian company.
The WHO has issued a series of warnings about substandard medicines from India.
According to Reuters, the syrup branded Cold Out, found in Iraq was manufactured by Fourrts (India) Laboratories for Dabilife Pharma.
This medication was found with higher than acceptable limit of contaminants diethylene and ethylene glycol.
WHO noted that the batch had 0.25% of diethylene glycol and 2.1% of ethylene glycol, when the acceptable safety limit for both is up to 0.10%.
In addition, the manufacturer and marketer have failed to provide guarantees on the safety and quality of the product.
Health experts have also issued warnings for atleast 5 other syrups produced in India.
