Hattieville men shot at after refusing to buy beer, cigarettes; Police name suspect

Posted: Monday, November 13, 2023. 4:12 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: Police are investigating a shooting incident arising from a confrontation on Sunday night.

Orin Joseph and another man from Rockville village outside Hattieville told police that they were in front of a store with another man when they encountered a fourth man who asked them for beer and cigarettes from the store.

Police have since identified this person as Akeem Morgan, alias ‘Lee John’, a brown-skinned Kriol man with dark hair.

They said they denied his request and then noticed a firearm beside him, and they chased him from the immediate area. Three of them decided to follow him and take away his firearm, according to reports, which Police today said is not advisable.

They followed him in their Grey Mazda Tribute on an unpaved street between the store and the Hattieville Primary School, but missed him apparently lying in wait for them. He came out behind the vehicle, then they heard two loud bangs like gunshots and heard the back windshield shatter.

They immediately drove to the Hattieville police station and made checks on the vehicle. They noticed that the back windshield was shattered and the left rear tire was flat.

No one was injured. Police investigations continue.
