Belize Women’s National Team coach, football player Miriam Villamil asks for help for urgent surgery

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: One of the coaches of  the Belize Women’s National Team Miriam Villamil, who is also a first division football player, is asking for help for an urgent surgery following a leg fracture in a first division game.

Needing $8,000 for surgery, Villamil took to social media to ask for assistance and already her friends have joined her in asking for assistance for her.

“Good night my Facebook friends and football community. As some of you may already know, last Sunday while playing a first division match I collided with a player and broke my right tibia.” Villamil wrote.

“I am in urgent need of a surgery to be able to regain mobility in my right leg. It is for this reason that I come to you all seeking financial assistance to aid me through these difficult times.

“As of today, the total amount I need is $8000.00 BZ to be able to do the surgery.

“Due to the urgency of the surgery I fear time is against me.

“My family members are already organizing food sales and my teammates are doing a raffle.

Villamil went on to thank everyone who has supported her through her football career.

“It has truly been an honor to represent Belize as a player and more recently as a coach at the Senior Women’s Level where we have been making our country proud competing in the CONCACAF W Road to Gold Cup Tournament.

“I thank you all in advance for your kind assistance. May God bless you all.”

Alberto Vellos joined Villamil in her plea for help.

“Please help by donating if you can, or supporting the fundraising efforts. Miriam Villamil is one of Corozal’s sporting icons and she has always been giving to our community through her football passion and talent, her dedication to organize and now her coaching of our national teams. She now needs the community to be there for her.  Please support,” Vellos said.

“Let’s all unite to support a great player, friend and coach . She has dedicated so many years to not only represent Belize internationally but also to coach and prepare the new generation of female footballers. Miriam Villamil you got this,” said the ex-Belize Women’s National Team player Delmi Cornelio.

“Hi – if you can even a $1.00 – please assist my friend Miriam Villamil – to get the necessary medical help she needs. Thanks,” football commissioner Gina Zabaneh said.

“Miriam Villamil has been a vital person in the development of our sport. She deserves all the assistance,” Nader A. Charaf said, tagging the Football Federation of Belize – FFB.
