By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belizean Kaya Cattouse will be aiming to win a fifth Krem’s New Year’s Day Cycling Classic when she competes in the 33rd edition of the race on Monday, January 1, 2024.
Cattouse has won the New Year’s Classic in 2012, 2016, 2019, and 2023.
This year, riding for international team LA Sweat, Cattouse won the 52-mile Women’s Category in solo fashion in two hours, 55 minutes, and 26 seconds (2:55:26). She took home all 14 station prizes.
Cattouse beat her Mexican teammate Mariana Valdez, who clocked 3:01:07, by five minutes and 41 seconds.
Kedisha Francis finished third in 3:04:47.
Team Gonz’s Paulita Chavarria, the only Under-23 rider, was fourth in 3:14:33.
