52nd National Agriculture and Trade Show in Belmopan comes up from April 26-28

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The 52^nd National Agriculture and Trade Show (NATS), which promotes Belize’s agriculture and related enterprises, comes up later this month from Friday to Sunday, April 26-28 at the National Agriculture and Trade Show Grounds in Belmopan.

“Get ready for the ultimate agricultural extravaganza!” the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Enterprise (MAFSE) said in promoting the National Agriculture and Trade Show.

“Hosted in Belmopan, the heart of our nation, this spectacular event takes place at the sprawling Agriculture Showgrounds, spanning over 60 acres along the breathtaking Roaring Creek. Don’t miss out on this incredible opportunity to witness innovation, celebrate agriculture, and be part of a movement towards a greener, more resilient future!”

The National Agric Show is organized yearly by the National Agriculture and Trade Show (NATS) Organizing Committee, headed by Chief Agriculture Officer Dr. Victoriano Pascual, under the aegis of the Ministry of Agriculture.

This year’s NATS will be held under the theme “Integrating Sustainable Food Systems: Mitigating Climate Change, Strengthening Agricultural Resilience” which was coined by 14-year-old Belize Adventist College student Noellie Cantun who won the NATS 2024 theme competition.

This year’s Agric Show features crops, livestock, and entrepreneurial displays, a rodeo, horseracing, a dog show, grilling and bartending competitions, mechanical rides and games, a 2024 Ford Ranger 4×4 raffle by BEC, and lots of food and entertainment.

According to the NATS Organizing Committee, 34,270 attended the 51^st National Agric Show in April 2023. That exceeded the 29,137 who attended in 2022 by 5,133. Though the Agric Show is officially opened on Friday evening, the main two days are Saturday and Sunday, with the latter usually attracting more people. In 2023, 13,500 visited ‘Agric’ on Saturday, April 29, and 20,770 on Sunday, April 30.

This year’s Farmers of the Year should be announced next week, according to MAFSE sources.

In 2023, the National Agriculture and Trade Show recognized Men’s Farmer of the Year Adrian Bartley, Women’s Farmer of the Year Esmeralda Stanley, and Junior Farmer of the Year Axel Perez.
