Was Cleon Smith Jr. lured to his death by someone he trusted?

Posted: Monday, December 5, 2022. 4:41 pm CST.

By Benjamin Flowers: Police are considering the possibility that Cleon Smith Jr., one of the victims of yesterday’s double murder in Belize City, was lured to his death by someone close to him.

Commissioner of Police Chester Williams gave an update on the investigation today, saying that Smith, a Placencia resident, was in Belize City visiting his child on Electric Avenue. Smith, who was accompanied by Kendale Ramirez, got into an altercation with the mother of his child and her boyfriend and left the area. Smith then reportedly got a phone call and headed back to the area.

“As he did so, they were ambushed and killed,” Williams said. “Now I’m not going to make any assumptions without any facts to support it, but there is a need for us to interview the baby’s mother more in-depth to see if it is she had something to do with the death of those two individuals and likewise the current boyfriend that she has. Those two persons are our main suspects,” Williams said.

Police also say that Ramirez is a friend of Smith, who was only traveling with him while he made the visit.

Police are investigating.
