By BBN Staff: Belize Electric Company Limited issued a press release today informing residents in San Ignacio/ Santa Elena and the surrounding communities that a simulation exercise will be conducted on June 27, 2017.
The exercise is being conducted with the collaboration of the National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) , and the Department of the Environment to test the emergency response procedures and mechanisms of both BECOL and NEMO in the event of a catastrophic flood on the Macal River.
The public is advised that the Early Warning System sirens will be activated and will blare for an extended period of time.
Residents are also advised that pre-selected schools and businesses will assist by simulating evacuations to safe zones.
The exercise is an ongoing effort by BECOL/NEMO/DOE to educate the public and safeguard the wellbeing of the communities.
