Staff: The Belize Police Department is considering the possibility of criminally charging the parents of a minor that drowned over the weekend.
Assistant Superintendent of Police, Alejandro Cowo, said today that police are investigating the matter thoroughly and are keeping all options open.
“We’re just waiting on the results of the post-mortem examination to determine what charges, if any, can be laid against the parents,” Cowo said.
Kelvin Alexander Sanchez, age 1-year and 11-months, drowned in a vat approximately 7-feet high on Saturday, September 22. Alexie Sanchez the child’s mother, had gone to visit her mother near mile 2 ½ miles on the George Price Highway.
