Man and his pregnant wife walk free from gun charges

Aaron Humes: Yesterday, a couple from Belize City walked free from gun charges.

Twenty -five-year-old Derrick Ramirez,originally of Dangriga Town, and his common-law wife 23-year-old Glenda Gonzalez, of Belize City, were charged last May with possession of an unlicensed 12 gauge Mossberg shotgun and three live cartridges found in their residence.

Ramirez and Gonzalez, who is currently expecting, appeared before Magistrate Emmerson Banner, who determined that the prosecution had failed to comply with an order on October 9th, 2018 to provide full disclosure by that date in advance of the trial date set for Monday.

The court was urged by the attorney for the pair, Ronell Gonzalez, to strike the matter out.
According to Gonzalez, only Ramirez was at home on the day of the search, but police brought charges against Glenda Gonzalez a few days later.
