Four vehicle occupants escape deadly collision with freight truck

By BBN Staff: A taxi driver and his three passengers managed to make it out of a potentially deadly collision with a freight truck on the Hummingbird Highway this morning.

Official reports are that the freight truck, driven by Albert Morey Jr., 27, was headed towards Dangriga Town when a taxi tried to perform a U-turn in front of it.

Morey told police that he tried to stop but still ended up colliding with the taxi, causing massive damage to the car which caught fire and burned completely. The drive and occupants managed to escape.

As a result of the accident, the taxi driver, William Vega, 25, sustained a cut on the left ear, on his stomach and complained of chest pain. Otto Castellanos, 34, received burns on his entire left hand, the left side of his face, neck, and left thigh, as well as a cut on his nose; Irma Yolanda Pau, 18, sustained abrasions on her arms, hands, knee, and feet, she also complained of chest pain; and Diana Pau, 28, sustained lacerations on the left upper eye and scratches on both hands.

They were all admitted in stable condition at the Western Regional Hospital.
