Referring to Belize as important ally, Taiwan Foreign Minister, Ambassador congratulate Belize on 40th anniversary of independence

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: In this month of National Celebrations, Taiwan’s Foreign Affairs Minister Joseph Wu and the Taiwan Ambassador to Belize have congratulated Belize on its 40th anniversary of independence.

In a video call from Taipei, Foreign Minister Joseph Wu spoke with Prime Minister John Briceño congratulating Belize on its 40th anniversary of independence and thanking Belize for the support our country has given Taiwan in the international community for many years.

Wu congratulated Belize on behalf of President Tsai Ing-wen and the people of Taiwan on the attainment of independence from the United Kingdom promising Taiwan will continue working with Belize in strengthening the bilateral partnership.

Wu referred to Belize as one of Taiwan’s important diplomatic allies in the Caribbean region and invited Prime Minister Briceño to visit Taiwan when the COVID-19 pandemic subsides.

On Saturday, Taiwan Ambassador to Belize David Kuang-Chou Chien also congratulated Belize on occasion of the 40th anniversary of our independence at the orientation of 51 Belizean students who received scholarships to study in Taiwanese universities.

“This year also marks the 40th anniversary of Belizean independence,” said Ambassador Kuang-Chou Chien. “Taiwan joins the people and the government of Belize in celebration of the 40th anniversary of Belize’s independence.”

“As a trustworthy and a faithful ally of Belize the Embassy of Taiwan looks forward to continuing to work with the people and the government of Belize to further strengthen the bilateral relations between Taiwan and Belize and to further enhance the wellbeing and the benefit of the Belizean people.”

PM Briceño thanked the Taiwanese government for the good wishes and for its assistance in fighting against COVID-19 and for helping Belize build its infrastructure.

Foreign Minister Wu said Taiwan will keep assisting Belize in its fight against COVID-19 and in its efforts to revive its economy and accelerate its national development.
