By Aaron Humes: The Ministry of Health and Wellness says it continues to uncover previously unreported deaths from COVID-19 as part of an investigation by the Epidemiology Unit, which is reviewing past cases and deaths for classification.

Eight such deaths – 1 case from October 2021, 1 case from November 2021, 2 cases from December 2021, 3 cases from February 2022, and 1 case from March 2022. It states, “We expect to report more deaths in the coming days and weeks as we continue our review.”

The number of deaths has risen to 672. Three of the new deaths were in mainland Belize District; five in Cayo District. Six were unvaccinated and two were fully vaccinated. Three of the dead were men and five women, with 400 women now having died from the virus as opposed to 272 men.

Between Friday’s report and the weekend report released this evening, the Ministry reports a total of 20 new confirmed cases and 22 recoveries.

The new cases from the weekend were reported in Belize City and San Ignacio Town (three each), Corozal Town, Libertad and San Andres, Corozal District; August Pine Ridge, Orange Walk District; San Pedro Town; Bullet Tree Falls, Cayo District; Dangriga and Indian Creek, Toledo District.

There are more samples under investigation (156) than total active cases (128), while one person, unvaccinated, is hospitalized.
