By Aaron Humes: BELMOPAN – A Memorandum of Understanding between the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) and Police Department signed today strengthens the already close relationship between the parties.
Ambassador Joy Grant, FIU Director, and Police Commissioner Allen Whylie are committing to facilitate their offices’ shared investigations of money laundering, predicate offences and terrorism financing.
It means more training for officers in both departments and a shared understanding of what is needed to fight money laundering and terrorism financing among other crimes.
The FIU is seeing fruits from its previous signing with the Customs Department in terms of ongoing negotiations.
