Sunday, October 19, 2014. PATRICK E. JONES Reporting: The Carnival Magic, the cruise ship from which the government of Belize refuse permission to evacuate a woman who was being monitored for possible Ebola infection, has docked in its home port of Galveston, Texas.
NBC News reported this morning that the Carnival Magic docked under cover of darkness just after 4 am (Belize Time) and all of the passengers, including the woman who was in voluntary isolation in her cabin, were allowed to disembark and go home.
Health officials in Texas say that “there is no evidence of a public health threat to cruise passengers of to Galveston County,” following the disembarkation of the Dallas hospital worker and her companion.
On Saturday, a blood sample from the woman, described as a hospital worker from Dallas, was airlifted for testing.
Kurt Koopman, who is the spokesman for the Galveston County Health Authority told USA Today that “the Ebola test was negative.”
A statement from the US Centers for Disease Control said that the blood sample tested negative for Ebola and that none of the passengers on the Carnival Magic showed any symptoms of the illness.
The Dallas hospital worker’s monitoring expires on Monday after which she will no longer have to monitor her health or be restricted in her travels.
