Wednesday, December 31, 2014. AARON HUMES Reporting: Executives of Titan International Securities Rohn Knowles and Kelvin Leach, originally from the Bahamas, were back before the Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday for their case with the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU), facing charges of failure to declare funds upon leaving Belize as they tried to do in September.

But during the testimony of a police officer who picked up both men from the Philip Goldson International Airport it was revealed that the envelope he confiscated from Leach contained US$6,300 and 11 Belize dollars and was so labeled.

A check of the envelope, however, failed to turn up the Belizean currency.

Senior Magistrate Sharon Frazer, declined to accept the envelope as evidence, which is thought to seriously undermine the case against Leach.

The case has been adjourned until January 6 when the men will learn if the charges are dropped.

Knowles and Leach are the subject of extradition proceedings by the U.S. Government, which accuses them and four others of defrauding the American federal government of a billion Belize dollars through alleged securities fraud.

The FIU was represented by Christelle Wilson.
