By BBN Staff: The African, Caribbean and Pacific group of states (ACP) is an international organization created in 1975. The ACP’s group is currently composed of 79 African, Caribbean and Pacific States.
The group has been a strong ally for Belize and the main interlocutor for Belize’s political development and trade relationships with the European Union since 1975.
The European Union finances most of the ACP development programs for ACP partner countries through the European Development Fund (EDF).
Belize currently benefits from this funding with current allocation under the 11th EDF for $27 million Euros. Under the 10th EDF, Belize enjoyed $11.8 million Euros of funding.
The ACP has been a major source of political support and solidarity for Belize, including solidarity for its Independence in 1981.
In 2016, the ACP affirmed its support for Belize’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and called for a peaceful resolution to the claim over Belize by Guatemala.
In December 2017, the ACP Council passed a resolution on resolving the Guatemalan claim on Belize.
