By BBN Staff: The Director of Public Prosecutions has dropped the fraud charges for two out of three persons involved in an ATM scam last year, however, they are still being detained.
Peruvian national, Louis Marroquin, and Colombian national Edgar Vargas Vaca, have been freed of the charges when they appeared in court before Senior Magistrate Tricia Pitts Anderson.
The men had been on remand at the Belize Central Prison for two months after police found them placing illegal equipment on ATM’s at two Scotiabank Branches, which enabled them to acquire confidential customer information. Authorities have not released either of them due to immigration offenses.
The third accused, Chilean national Juan Espinosa, is still facing charges of fraud and his charges have not been withdrawn.
