Posted: Tuesday, March 26, 2019. 2:20 pm CST.

Aaron Humes:A police officer was beaten up and robbed of his weapon while coming off-duty this past weekend.

On Monday, 27-year-old Ashley Haylock was charged with theft and common assault and denied bail when appearing in the court of Senior Magistrate Aretha Ford.

According to Police Constable, Mark Martinez, he was still in police uniform when he met a crowd and a vehicle stopped in front of his car. He recognized Haylock, who stopped to talk to the driver of the vehicle in front of his.

Officer Martinez said he blew his horn to get them moving and Haylock took offense and punched him in the face. Martinez began to get out of his vehicle and Haylock applied a choke-hold and removed his .9mm pistol. Adding insult to injury, the crowd in the area turned on him and began to beat him up.

Haylock pleaded not guilty and returns to court on May 13, 2019. Police are seeking two others involved in the incident.
