By BBN Staff: Today the Joint Intelligence Coordinating Center of the Belize Police Department issued its quarterly report on major crimes.
According to the report, January to March of this year saw 32 murders countrywide.
When compared to the 46 murders for this same time frame in 2018 we can see that the murder count has decreased by 14.
However, when we look at the arrest rates for murder we note that in 2018 there were 29 arrests or 63.04%.
For 2019 there have only been 14 arrests for the 32 murders which works out to 43.75%.
The data also shows that the vast majority of murders (19) this year were committed in the Belize District as was the case in 2018.
The least murders (1) again occurred in the Corozal District.
