Mark Lizarraga: Prepare for “confluence of life-changing storms”

Posted: Wednesday, March 25, 2020. 12:41 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: Belize faces multiple storms in the coming months, of varying kinds, according to Business Community Senator, Mark Lizarraga.

There are the physical storms – hurricanes, of which there are more projected than normal for the coming season; health, represented by COVID-19, and economic, both from COVID-19 effects and issues local to Belize.

Senator Lizarraga says these are things we could have better prepared for, citing last year’s International Monetary Fund (IMF) report, and the Budget could have been redrafted to better consider national needs.

At this time, he says, we must all do our part, and while he commended the major parties for coming together, there remain problems both in conception and execution of this most important blueprint of national development.

As we are confronted by many challenges, Lizarraga said, it cannot be “business as usual;” it is important to bring in all partners to find solutions.
