Lord Ashcroft discusses COVID-19 response in Belize

By BBN Staff: This morning, in a segment of Open Your Eyes with Channel 5, Lord Micheal Ashcroft discussed the COVID-19 response in Belize.

Ashcroft has been in Belize for 10 weeks and says that he was in Belize in early March when countries began to implement restrictions due to COVID-19.

Ashcroft says that as an observer of the response efforts to contain the COVID-19 pandemic, he noticed that Belize acted quickly to track and trace the cases.

Ashcroft noted that Belize is 1 in 15 countries that have acted quickly to try and contain the COVID-19, and in Belize’s case we were very successful in doing so.

In addition, he said that politicians may need to make difficult decisions based on the economic health of the country.

Ashcroft also shared some of his history with Belize, explaining that the first time he came to Belize was in 1953 with his parents. He went to Saint Catherine’s and was in class with the late Sir Barry Bowen.
