By Aaron Humes: The Image Factory marked, in low-key fashion, its 25th anniversary of foundation this morning.

Founder Yasser Musa handed over stacks of the Factory’s print output since 1995 to Chief Librarian of the Belize National Library Service and Information System (BNLSIS), Luciola Castillo, for location at the National Heritage Collection in Belmopan.

But while Chief Librarian Castillo encouraged Belizeans, especially young people, to make use of the quiet space of the library in their area during this time, she also pledged to reach out via the bookmobile and other services.

Musa meanwhile, discussed the importance not only of the historical record but also the “living legacy” of contributors such as Gilvano Swasey, Leroy “The Grandmaster” Young and Michael Gordon, all of whom were present today at the North Front Street space.

The Factory was also online, hosting a “You Are Invited” art competition, though Musa pointed out that he had to reassure some who were unsure their work was “good enough” to be entered and that they were not being judged.
