By BBN Staff: Today, Belize Electricity Limited (BEL) assured customers that the company is taking all steps possible to prepare for situations that may interrupt power due to the impact of bad weather during the hurricane season.

“We have endeavoured to mobilize our people, resources and equipment as best as possible, considering the circumstances of flooding and recent heavy rains,” BEL said.

The company assured customers that, in the event of power interruption due to weather-related damage of BEL’s equipment, it will dispatch teams to respond as soon as it is safe enough to do so. BEL will also inform customers if a situation arises where personnel cannot deal with situations promptly due to movement restriction issues mobilizing equipment.

BEL also advised its customers to stay safe during the hurricane season and encouraged that they: drive with caution on wet roads and in rainy weather. Remember to always use your lights in low visibility; maintain a safe following distance from other vehicles; relocate to higher ground early, when it is safe to do so; monitor local radio, television or social media for weather updates; avoid driving or walking in flooded areas, which can have hidden dangers such fallen power lines, debris, and potholes; and assume all wires are electrically charged, including cable TV feeds.
