Guinea Grass residents protest lockdown of their village

Posted: Thursday, August 20, 2020. 2:19 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: Residents of Guinea Grass Village in the Orange Walk District have mobilized and are currently at the police checkpoint for the second day.

The residents are calling on the government to call off the lockdown of Guinea Grass Village.

They are concerned since they haven’t had access to banks or any ATM’s since the announcement of the lockdown.

Villagers told BBN that they are puzzled as to why they remain in a lockdown when other parts of the country have more cases and lockdown measures are not being implemented.

Plus, they are concerned about food and survival for their families.

The residents say that the protests will continue until a response is received from the Government.
