By Aaron Humes: Leader of the People’s United Party (PUP) John Briceño announced today that former Prime Minister Said Musa has been awarded the George Price Lifetime Achievement Award from the party.

During his presentation at the observance of the passing of George Price this morning, Briceño mentioned that he had handed over the award when they met this week, “to recognize the tremendous amount of work that he has done for this country.”

Musa counted Price as a mentor and was officially his successor in 1996 after defeating former deputy leader and Opposition Leader Florencio Marin, Senior.

Marin was the first recipient of the award during the Party’s National Convention in February of 2018 at the ITVET Grounds, Belize City.

The second awardee was the late Jane Usher, a sister of Price and area representative for Pickstock in addition to being long-time general manager and treasurer of Holy Redeemer Credit Union Limited.

The award is typically approved by the National Party Council of the PUP.

Musa suffered a stroke in May and formally stepped down from representing the Fort George constituency on September 8.

The party will host a tribute to him on Independence Eve, Sunday, September 20, virtually.
