Verdes players safe in Cancun after Hurricane Delta

Posted: Thursday, October 8, 2020. 9:25 am CST.

By Aaron Humes: Hurricane Delta slammed into the Yucatan Peninsula on Tuesday en route to the United States.

Among those feeling its wrath were members of Verdes Football Club training for their CONCACAF League preliminaries with Arcahaie FC of Haiti.

The team posted to social media saying all the players were safe and accounted for in the aftermath of the storm.

Training continues in advance of the October 20 match. The team has boosted its squad with several imports including Brazilian defender Vinicius, Mariano Landero, a forward, and Edwin Bernal, a midfielder.

The Green Machine was appointed to represent Belize as leaders of the standings at the time of sports stoppages in March due to COVID-19. It is not yet clear when they will get a chance to defend their incomplete League title.
