By Aaron Humes: This week, Belize is participating virtually in the thirty-sixth Latin American-Caribbean Regional Conference of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), being hosted by Nicaragua.
Outgoing Minister for Food and Agriculture Godwin Hulse; his CEO Edmund Zuniga; Chief Agriculture Officer Andrew Harrison; Chief Environmental Officer Martin Alegria; the designated FAO National Correspondent Armando Aban, and others form the national delegation.
The United Nations-based organization will report on its achievements for 2018 and 2019 and begin planning for 2021 and 2022, focusing on solutions to the challenges of food security, rural development, innovation, climate change and sustainable agriculture, fisheries, livestock and forestry.
Additionally, the conference will focus on transforming food systems for healthy diets for all, moving hand-in-hand towards prosperous and inclusive rural societies, sustainable and climate-resilient agriculture, and driving innovation and digital agriculture.
The Minister will address his colleagues on these topics during the conference: sustainable and climate resilient agriculture; innovation and digital agriculture and improving FAO’s capabilities to save member countries in Latin America and the Caribbean.
