Fishermen’s quarrel over stolen fish leads to attack

Posted: Saturday, November 14, 2020. 11:18 am CST.

By Aaron Humes: A Belize City fisherman is stable in hospital after being attacked this morning at the Northern Fishermen Cooperative Compound on North Front Street.

Police say 41-year-old Alfred Barrow told them he had been approached by one “Black” from Kelly Street, a dark complexioned, medium built man who accused him of stealing fish from his ice box.

Barrow said he walked away from “Black” to avoid any confrontation and went to sit by the exit area and whilst there “Black” followed him and picked up an iron pipe measuring approximately 2 1/2 feet in length and hit him to the center of his forehead. It caused a large cut wound.

Police have recovered the pipe and are reviewing potential surveillance footage from a nearby camera. Their investigations continue.
