By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Five Belizean cyclists leave Belize on Thursday en route to Merida, Mexico, to compete in the MZ Tour being held over the weekend.
Dwayne Wade, Wassani Castro, Jafari Castro, and Henry Li will be participating in the Professional Elite category, while 15-year-old Dion O’Brien will compete in the Junior category.
Wade said that since competitive cycling is not yet allowed here, they are taking advantage of the invitation sent by the MZ Tour organizers.
The MZ Tour is a three-day three-stage race held around the city of Merida. It was originally planned for early January.
The first stage is a 20K individual time trial on Friday, March 12, the second is a 160-kilometer race (100 miles) on Saturday, and the third is a one-hour criterium on Sunday.
The team, traveling independently, returns on Sunday after the tour is over.
