By Aaron Humes: Honorary Consul of Israel to Belize, Rose Wischenka, has donated care packages for people living with diabetes to Belize’s Diabetes Association.
The Middle Eastern State, this week, marks 73 years of independence and its Government has directed its diplomatic missions and consulates around the world to carry out humanitarian responsibilities wherever and whenever action is required.
Diabetes patients were selected on the basis of their unique challenges during the pandemic and the donation is hoped to help improve their quality of life and increase public awareness.
Consul Wischenka explained, “[The packages] will include food items and diabetes supplies such: syringes, glucose monitors and strips, lancets, facemasks, hand sanitizer other PPE to assist in COVID-19 preparedness. We are also donating a specific amount to sponsor radio and TV ads aimed at increasing awareness with regard to diabetes.”
She further relayed the ongoing commitment of the State of Israel to the people of Belize during these challenging times. The countries maintain close bilateral relations through the Israeli Embassy in Mexico, accredited to Belize, and have collaborated on diverse matters in recent times.
