By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The 10K Run for St. Vincent and the Grenadines organized by the  Stann Creek Ecumenical College and SVG Yuremein Project comes up on Saturday, May 15, 2021 at 7 venues countrywide, namely Orange Walk, Dangriga, Punta Gorda, Belize City, Belmopan, San Pedro, and Corozal.

According to the organizers, the Stann Creek Ecumenical College and SVG Yurumein Project, the multi-race is to raise funds in assistance of the people of St. Vincent and the Grenadines affected by the recent eruptions of La Soufriere Volcano which left millions in damages and thousands of people displaced.

For the organizers, who are Garifuna, St Vincent is a place they hold dear having migrated from there to Belize.

All races start at 5:30 a.m. on Saturday morning at the seven venues. Runners are expected to gather at the starting points by 5 a.m.

The 10K race in Dangriga will go from Xaibel at the 6-mile Junction to the Alejo Beni Park.

In Punta Gorda, the race starts at Eldridge and finishes at Central Park.

In Belize City, it goes from in front of Wesley College by the Yabra Green to the Memorial Park.

In San Pedro, the race goes from Central Park to Victoria House and back.

Orange Walk, which will have Ian ‘Lion’ Gordon as invited runner, will see the start and finish at Central Park.

In Corozal, the race starts at the town’s entrance and goes to Rainbow.

The donation/contribution to participate is $10. $30 gets you a Yurumein Project T-shirt.

The organizers already had registration and promotion drives at the different venues.

The registration and promotion drive in Belmopan on the occasion of Market Day is on Wednesday, May 12, from 8 a.m.

Runners may register online or in-person at the different venues.

The organizers said all proceeds will be donated to purchase needed supplies for the affected victims.
