Rare burglary reported in Bomba

By Aaron Humes: A farming couple from Bomba Village, Belize District, suffered the indignity of being robbed of their possessions on Tuesday night while attending church in nearby Maskall.

Santana, 54, and Maria Corena Orellana, 42, told police they had left their home secured around 6:35 in the evening, but on their return at 9 p.m., Maria found the north-side window of her bedroom open and burglar bars damaged.

Santana found his pink and black Everest backpack that he had left hanging on a nail inside his room was on a washboard. He then searched his bag and noticed that a grey-colored Samsung phone with black and red case was missing as well as BZ $8,800 and US $1,400; along with his expired passport.

Maria then made checks in her closet and noticed that a black plastic bag that had US $2,000 was also missing. The total stolen was $15,600 cash and the phone.

Police investigations continue.
