By Aaron Humes: Prime Minister John Briceno has told Breaking Belize News he is awaiting formal details of the shooting death of Jesse Escobar, 29, Sunday night in Santa Familia, Cayo District.

But as he does he reminded us, “We do condemn any kind of unnecessary violence by the Police and BDF and these officers must be held accountable.”

It is the second such incident faced by his security administration in a few months, following the police-involved death of Laddie Gillett in July and multiple previous incidents resulting in injury. Minister of Home Affairs, Kareem Musa has made improving community relations with police a priority of his tenure but recent events have only led to more tension between the public and security forces.

We’ll have more as we get it.
