Infrastructure boom continues countrywide

Posted: Wednesday, September 22, 2021. 9:56 am CST.

By Aaron Humes: Never mind their complaints in Opposition that Infrastructure investment could not bring significant returns.

The Government of Prime Minister John Briceño has not only continued projects born under the previous administration but have planned much more.

The Ministry of Infrastructure Development & Housing, led by Minister Julius Espat, has been extremely busy transforming the national road network in the areas that matter, according to Prime Minister John Briceño.

“Over 976 miles of road and 18 bridges across this country have been repaired including those ravaged by the Eta and Iota floods of 2020,” the Prime Minister said during Independence Day ceremonies on Tuesday.

He added that, “Over 311 miles of village streets, roads and farm roads have been resurfaced to support the rural areas and productive sector while another 15 miles of roads have been newly paved.”

These include sections of the George Price Highway in Belize City, at the formerly broken culvert between St Matthew’s village and the Beaver Dam Bridge, and from Georgeville to Esperanza, and the Philip Goldson Highway between Ladyville and the Burrell Boom Road junction.

Another area of achievement by this Ministry has been its success at renegotiating the terms of the Caracol Road construction contract and the Haulover Bridge construction contract saving around 57 million dollars on those two contracts.

A full replacement of the Philip Goldson Highway is underway and works continue on the Coastal Highway and Sarteneja and Progresso Roads.
