Patrick Faber: ‘Government must do more to combat COVID’

Posted: Thursday, October 7, 2021. 11:09 am CST.

By Aaron Humes: For UDP party leader Patrick Faber, the COVID-19 fight got personal with the recent illness of his mom, Bernadette Pott.

She is now COVID-free after a negative test, but so many more at risk.

A simple drive around the City, Faber said, shows little attention to the basics. Yes, it’s something we all know by now, but actions speak louder than words, he stated.

Testing must be free and everywhere and not private, Faber said, and the “absolute failure” of containing the community spread goes back to testing. Even in his own constituency, he added, some have said they will not get tested simply because they can’t afford it. But it is critical to test, identify, and isolate.

Faber continued that vaccination isn’t everything but it is critical to prevent serious illness. He has yet to see a campaign come through critical neighborhoods in Southside and address the needs of these communities by incentivizing taking the vaccine.
